Prerequisite 2: Swim Test

  • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 6 laps / 150 yards continuously without stopping using only front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Note: This is not a race - take your time). After finishing your 6 laps - start treading water for 2 minutes using only your legs. After 2 minutes (the instructor will tell you when you're finished), swim your last 2 continuous laps (50 yards) using only front crawl or breaststroke or a combination of both.

Prerequisite 3: Brick Test (Timed Event: 1 minute 40 seconds)

  • The instructor will place a 10 pound brick in the deep end of the pool about 7 or 8 feet underwater. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards (less than 1 lap) to the submerged brick. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to retrieve the brick. Return to the surface, lay on your back, and place the brick on your chest with both hands holding onto the sides of the brick. Swim / kick on your back to the starting point without letting go of the brick. Once back at the starting point, leave the brick at the side of the pool.
